The Nakashima Foundation for Peace will celebrate a Spring Festival featuring a Zazenkai (Zen Meditation), Tea Ceremony and Concert along with light refreshments on Sunday, May 1, starting at noon, at the Arts Building, 1847 Aquetong Road, in New Hope, Pennsylvania.
The Zazenkai will be followed by the Tea Ceremony which will be performed by Yasuko Hara, Tea Master, and the Concert features Duo YUMENO, Yoko Reikano Kimura with Koto/Shamisen/Voice, Hikaru Tamaki on Cello and James Nyoraku Schlefer on Shakuhachi. The concert will include the world premiere performance of a koto-cello duo by composer Daron Hagen.
This one-of-a-kind event will benefit the Nakashima Foundation's programs of preserving the legacy of George Nakashima, a leading innovator of 20th century furniture design, and for bringing together peoples of the world around Sacred Peace Tables. The Sacred Tables, which he envisioned for every continent, are already in place in North America at St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City, the Unity Pavilion in Auroville, India, and the Russian Academy of Art in Moscow, Russia, with others being planned for the continents of Africa, South America, and Australia.
The suggested donation for this special event, $100 per person, is tax-deductible and will benefit the work of the Nakashima Foundation for Peace. Space is limited, register by April 26.
