Brad Pitt immersed himself in furniture design in a bid to heal his broken heart following his split from Angelina Jolie in September 2016, according to reports.

The 54-year-old has been working with his long-term furniture designer Frank Pollaro and new pictures show him selecting wood and working on various designs with him.

Pitt and Pollaro recently created a specially commissioned table together for a mystery buyer and the pair have actually worked together since around 2012.

Architectural Digest reported at the time, that the actor and Pollaro were presenting about a dozen pieces, including tables, chairs, and a bed.

But since Brad's split from Jolie, his involvement with his artistic projects appears to have gathered pace as he endeavoured to take his mind off his heartache.

On the Pitt Pollaro website, the pair give an insight into how their collaborative works came about.

They write: 'In 2008, Brad Pitt commissioned a custom desk from Pollaro Custom Furniture. Frank Pollaro personally delivered the desk to Brad’s chateau in the south of France.

'During the installation, Brad and Frank found that they had a common passion for furniture and fine details. They discussed design history and their appreciation of materials, old and new. Most importantly, they shared a commitment to perfection.

'Frank noticed a design sketch book on a nearby table. Intrigued by the hundreds of sketches that Brad had created over a ten-year period, Frank encouraged Brad to allow Pollaro to transform his drawings into three-dimensions.

'Brad enthusiastically agreed to move forward. In reviewing the sketches, they selected what would become the initial pieces of the Pitt-Pollaro collection.'

A source said at the time, that once darkness falls everybody else leaves and he stays behind, making the art space his own.

They said: 'He spends all night working on his art and listening to emotional songs.

'Everybody knows it's related to what's going on with him personally, but nobody says anything. He's a quiet guy, and very humble. He's learning at a fast pace.

'Art is a way for him to concentrate on one thing, taking his mind off everything else. He'd rather do that and be constructive than go out partying.'

The star's art soundtrack included songs by indie singer Bon Iver, and breakup track Just To Satisfy You by Waylon Jennings.

Lyrics to the latter song include: 'How many hearts must break, how many will it take. To satisfy you, just to satisfy you. Another love, another fool. To play your game.'

Brad also famously enlisted architects through the Make It Right foundation, to create quality affordable housing in post-Katrina New Orleans.
