Industry Moves: Publicis Canada adds a group creative director

Publicis adds a group CD

Ian Simpson has joined Publicis Canada as group creative director.

Most recently a sessional instructor at OCAD University, Simpson held group creative director roles at Ogilvy and Zulu Alpha Kilo. Simpson began his marketing career as a senior copywriter with Grip.

Amassing more than 15 years experience across independent and network agencies, Simpson has led the creative business on clients in every major sector from beer to cars to financial to QSR. His work includes a TD Bank Super Bowl spot in “Taboo Talk,” “Ask a Timbit” featuring NHL stars Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon, KitchenAid’s Rise for the Cure, and campaign work for CAMH and PartciPACTION.

Trinity Western University names CMO

Trinity Western University (TWU) has appointed James Tweedy as vice president of marketing and communications and chief marketing officer.

He brings more than two decades of experience leading brand, marketing and communications strategy across multiple industries, including significant experience in the consulting, consumer product and entertainment industries. He assumes the new role after six years as TWU’s executive director of marketing and communications, where he and his team focused on advancing and elevating the Langley, B.C.-based university’s brand within the global higher education market.

He previously held senior marketing roles with BC’s Crew Marketing Partners. He was also director of marketing for Universal Music Group-owned, Vagrant Records.

Sobi Canada names new director of marketing

Scott Young is starting a new position as director of marketing at biopharmaceutical company, Sobi Canada. He was most recently its associate director and brand lead for Canada. The Stockholm-based pharma company specializes in genetic diseases and inflammation.

Bimbo Canada promotes a marketer

Sarah Liou is now marketing manager for flatbreads at Bimbo Canada (Canada Bread). Liou, a nearly four-year veteran of the CPG, formerly worked as an assistant marketing manager, working on brands like Villaggio, Stonemill and Natural Bakery.
