Just when the waves of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreaks appeared to have calmed down in Central Europe, Hungary reported another outbreak on a cattle farm.
The outbreak occurred on a cattle farm near the town Rábapordány in the province , about 30 km south of the rest of the outbreaks, which form a cluster at the border between Hungary and Slovakia. As the virus can also occur in pigs, any developments in the spread of the virus is being watched by the pig community too.
According to the German leading agricultural title Top Agrar, the farm had 874 animals on-site. As a result of the latest finding, the infected zone including transportation restrictions has been enlarged. That does not affect nearby Austria.
